These Maryland companies made Inc.’s 2021 ‘Best Workplaces’ list

The workplace has become a nebulous concept over the last year. Place both matters more and less than it ever has.

The model of what it means to have and be in a workplace is forever changed with the shift to remote work in 2020. For the rest of 2021, there’s more expected adjustment as some firms embrace a hybrid model of in-office and at-home work. Even though the jury is still out on how HQs and offices will function in the future workplace, Inc. Magazine has narrowed in on companies that navigated the storms of 2020 and made the workplace a safe haven.

For its annual Best Workplaces list, the magazine focused in on response to the last year, honoring 429 businesses that “did the most to support their employees and keep them engaged through a turbulent year,” per its tagline.

Here are the Maryland companies that made the cut:

• Berman McAleer, the financial advisory and wealth management firm based in Timonium
• Blue Corona, a Gaithersburg-based digital marketing agency that serves residential and commercial services companies earned special recognition from Inc.
• CallTrackingMetrics, a Severna Park-based software company specializing in contact center automation
• Capitol Benefits, the Gaithersburg-based insurance agency
• CK Commercial, the commercial construction company based in Millersville
• CTAM, an Oxon Hill-based marketing organization focused on media, tech and entertainment.
• iHire, a Frederick-based software company, which makes a recruiting platform
• IntelliGenesis, a Columbia-based company that provides cyber services, data science and more to national defense orgs.
• May Construction Group, a Bethesda-based company specializing in office renovations, self-storage structures and capital improvements
• Monster Lead Group, an Owings Mills-based company that specializes in lead generation, and develops sales and marketing technology
• Phoenix Operations Group, a Woodbine-based engineering services company focused on national cyber resources
• SC&H Group, the Sparks-based management consulting, audit and tax firm, is making the list for the fourth time. Over the last year they’ve helped to guide businesses seeking federal aid and cyber protection, and stood up to seek out community with other innovators in Maryland.”This year’s recognition holds an even greater symbolic impact and is a testament to our firm’s resilience and dedication to our people-first promise,” said CEO Pritpal Kalsi.
• SHIFT, the Fells Point-based collective that includes a consulting firm, mission-driven community of business leaders and the investment firm SHIFT Ventures. The company works with others on culture, and now it is being recognized for its own for the fourth time. “It’s always an honor to be recognized with so many amazing organizations who also believe that people are their most important asset. Of the years we have been fortunate enough to be on Inc.’s prestigious list, this one is both unique and special,” said CEO Joe Mechlinski.
• Synergist Computing, an Annapolis-based software company that specializes in enterprise integrations, application development, software modernization, information management, and big-data analytics.
